cube furniture

cube lights

some of the sketches

This sketch is talking about the different combination of cubes can make different furniture, such as lounge, storages, table, etc. Besides, we can use cube the make arepieces and lights.

This sketch is talking about the beginning idea(cube), and think about the charateristics of Hong Kong people, they are full of creativity, flexibility, curiosity, etc.

This sketch is some sketches of persepective and elevation, but it's at very beginning stage.
But I think we can create a tunnel for attracting people go it.

Inside the tunnel, there may be full of Photos/patterns/graphics/etc that relating or representing Hong Kong.
Also, there are some holes on the wall for people looking through, this idea is generated from the curiosity of Hong Kong people.

Another sketches of top view and interior persepective.

Apperance of the cube, as there are some holes, so, lights inside the cube would comes out through holes.

This sketch is talking some idea of furniture: cubes can be form by folding and with pattern on it.

Beginning sketches.

ROOF TERRACE GRAFTWORKS (1999 NEW YORK)ARCHITECTS: LAWRENCE BLOUGH AND JOHN HENLE

This roof garden is on the 32nd storey of a New York apartment building. Designed to capture views of the East Riverand midtown MAnhattan, the curved, wooden screen also shields the terrace from mechanical equipment. The spiky trellis that crowns the garden is built from steel and wod hydris beams for wider spans, and is designed to mimic the flight pattern of migratory birds.

It is interesting that it uses for the chair. We can use the plastic pipe to make furniture. It also can create an interesting form of furniture.

Room Installation
Sam Davidoff
The objective is aided by the intentional misuse of the term, ‘self-portrait’, within the deceptive title. She feels this reflects the way society is deluded by today’s consumer market. The use of the repetitive Warhol style pattern is to emphasise the mass-produced world of consumerism within which we function. Consequently indicating to her awareness of this implied deception, but admitting to her own indulgence despite that fact.
It also is an example of illusion installation art. The space is vertical. The artist divided into two rooms that are the same. The message that the artist want to tell is very good. Mass production is common nowadays for the reason of globalization may be. The things you own is the same as mine. It losts personality. It is a good message that we can use in our installation.

Post-Consumer Art Installation
This exhibit represents a collaboration of upper division art students and consists of two parts. An informational display fills the 2nd floor gallery and explains the nature of environmental and installation art and the process to create the large sculpture that dominates the lobby area.
I think this sculpture is interesting because it is made of plastic. It represents a treelike structure, extending through the ceiling opening to the 2nd floor and creates a canopy and a feeling of being overwhelmed by plastics. It is an important message to show the danger of environment that people do not pay attention to. Plastic bags also are interesting to play with since they are flexible, long lasting, colourful and also easily getted.

I see it is interesting that create a fake staircase from the ceiling. The ceiling and the staircase have some illusion that they are parts of the room. This image inspires me that we can create some illusion that people will just feel like they are coming into a real house with staircase and also furnitre inside.

Notes from last Concept Meeting

Main issues to address from the last meeting:

1- How can you show a hybrid/combonation accomadation space by combining lounge, sleeping and fooding options?

2- How can we describe what typical accomadation spaces are like, or what the exisiting conditions are?

3- How do we incorporate materials that are from HK? Like milk crates and red, white, blue vinyl cloth from the market?

4- What makes this space distinctively HK?

Use Video and Image Projection as part of the experience of the Accommodation Space:

Use elements such as seating to control the experience and view point of the user in the space.
